St. Luke’s Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
St. Luke’s Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, located in downtown Boise right off the connector, is a state-of-the-art, 230,000-square-foot facility that integrates a wide range of healthcare services under one roof including outpatient services, orthopedic clinics, advanced imaging, indoor/outdoor rehabilitation, a pharmacy, lab services, and a 12-room ambulatory surgery center. The design ensures accessibility in a high traffic part of downtown Boise, with over 700 parking spaces, providing convenience for patients and visitors alike. From the increased use of high-precision robotics to same-day surgery discharge, this new facility is well-equipped to put St. Lukes at the forefront of innovation–and to potentially become a national leader–in the field of orthopedics.
South Beck and Baird played a key role in the success of this project. First announced in 2017, the project faced unique challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic as well as a complete change in location from a site along River Street to its current location on Fairview near the 27th St. intersection. The team at SBB was tasked with creating (and later adapting) a design plan as well as produce completed construction documents that could meet the needs of the new site that was more centrally located and higher trafficked, while also staying within the budgetary constraints exacerbated by the pandemic. Through key value engineering changes, careful collaboration with the project team, and assistance with the construction administration, SBB helped achieve the client’s budgetary goals while maintaining the ambitious vision of the project.
